Polar Exploration : WE DONT CARE

Is it just me? I dont get the whole media interest in Pat Falvey et al. They made the choice to go to the south pole. I dont see it as anything but a personal achievement.

Listening to Neil Prenderville makes my blood boil. What is his hard on for Pat Falvey. Gimps are ringing in looking to give him the freedom of the city, putting him on a postage stamp, collecting money for him etc

The are giving out about the American research base not giving them a meal or a shower when they arrived! Why should they? They didnt ask them to call down to them! They have nothing to do with Pat Falveys little trip. I was actually disappointed he actually made it to the south pole alive as I knew we would have to hear so much bollox about how great himself and his team are. They're not. It was their choice.

Next time I go on holidays, I hope Neil Prenderville gives me as much exposure. I hope people do a whip around for me to pay for it and I fancy being on a postage stamp. Freedom of the city would also be nice. Come on people. Make it happen!

I'm not into begrudgery all that much but all this celebration seems a bit premature. Surely they should only celebrate in two months time when they make their way back to civilisation. Getting there is no big deal when compared with getting back out again. How many have got there only to find its their final resting place.
Hi Gamma, thanks for dropping by and leaving your comment! Dont get me wrong, I'm not begrudging them, I just dont see what all the fuss is about! I dont see it as anything except a personal achievement on Pat Falveys part and it serves no benefit to the greater good of Irish people or humanity alike :-) I dont believe in rewarding people on something like that when there are hundreds of people actually doing something of benefit and not being recognised at all. Dan.
I mean't begrudgery on my part. I was trying to remain neutral on the issue. I could have included my initial reaction to hearing they reached the south pole: "Get a job!"
I meant to have the word *either* after "begrudging them" Dont be neutral...its more interesting!

@initial reaction: Ha Ha! Get a gun more like...
